Soft Fold is an exhibition that has no ambition to say more than it does.
It does exactly what it says. Chairs that open, close, or can be disassembled.
I am interested in safari and folding chairs because, although they were designed more than a hundred years ago, they still reflect a contemporary way of living: informal, mobile, and lightweight. Sitting on a piece of canvas is an immediate, intuitive solution, hard to beat and not yet consumed by cosmetic attempts of design. The frame opens and closes as needed. There is no room for interpretation: minimum material for maximum comfort and performance. The exhibition is built around a single objective: trace and reveal the codes of beauty in objects born to work, not to appear as something else. Forty chairs, each with its own characteristics and similarities, create a common scenario. Historical models, more recent examples, and contemporary productions outline a typological framework that we should observe with more attention.
