About ten years ago, I bought my first director’s chair. Unintentionally and unconsciously, I began a personal exploration of this typology of seating. Soft Fold was created to present the most significant models I’ve collected over the years while also illustrating the research process that defines my design practice. Each chair on display has served as a reference or comparison point during the process of the Mehari chair, designed for Campeggi. Soft Fold is a personal attempt to trace a typological thread connecting the chairs on display, without claiming to be exhaustive and acknowledging that each one retains its own uniqueness. Throughout these years of research, my aim has never been to establish a ranking, a chronological order, or a hierarchy, but rather to appreciate their specific qualities and to explore the codes of beauty in objects born from efficiency.
